Whether you’re a makeup enthusiast or someone who only on occasion wears some moisturizer, you’re familiar with Sephora. The retailer’s name has become almost synonymous with beauty shopping at this point – and that’s because it carries practically every product related to beauty, skin and hair care. Need a product for your frizzy hair as warmer months roll around? Sephora has several to choose from. Searching for a cleanser to get your makeup off at the end of the day? Head to Sephora! Looking for the perfect concealer to cover up your dark circles from this month’s late nights out? Sephora has it all.

If you’ve been dying to get your hands on the latest viral Sephora products only to come up empty-handed, you’re not alone. Whether you want the latest products for glazed donut skin, need the perfect neutral lip combo you saw your favorite celebrity wearing, or just need a replenishment of your tried-and-true viral foundation, get ready to wait a while. Time and time again I’ve shown up to Sephora only to realize that it was out of my favorite products. And let’s face it, there’s nothing worse than being in dire need of your favorite foundation only to realize you’ve wasted a trip.

The key to getting your beloved items? Find out what’s currently on the shelves at your local Sephora stores, sign up for restock email notifications, and make sure to be the first in line as they turn on the open sign.

How often does Sephora restock?

All great shoppers know that getting into their favorite stores on the day of a restock is the key to getting their hands on their favorite products. For Aldi shoppers, it’s Wednesdays, for Target shoppers it’s a mix of Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and for HomeGoods shoppers, it’s a combination of weekends and weekdays.

When it comes to Sephora, however, there is no clear restocking schedule. According to a Sephora customer service representative, there isn’t one particular day that Sephora restocks its items. The store primarily replenishes items on a need-based basis. If an item is out of stock Beauty Insiders will receive an email when the item becomes available again.

On Reddit, Sephora employees have also shared that while their stores do tend to get new shipments of items each week, they aren’t aware ahead of time of what those products will be. As one wrote, “We get shipments every week, but we have no idea what will be in that shipment until it arrives, so we’re just as in the dark as you guys, unfortunately.” They, too, recommend signing up for email alerts, so you can be notified when an item is back in stock.

Does Sephora put items on hold?

According to Sephora’s website, shoppers who place an order online for in-store pickup have five full days to pick up their purchase before it is restocked. After that time, your order will be canceled, and the item will be placed back on the shelves. When it comes to in-store holds, the length of the hold will depend on the Sephora store. While some stores will hold an item for a full day, others will only hold items for a few hours.

How to know if a Sephora product will be going out of stock

While some retailers have “only 1 left” plastered under every product, that’s not the case at Sephora. According to a customer service representative, there’s no foolproof way to know when an item is going out of stock. However, if the product recently went viral on TikTok, there’s a good chance it will be flying off shelves pretty soon, so grab it while you can.

How to know when a product will be back in stock at Sephora

As noted above, if a product is out of stock, you can sign up to receive email notifications when it’s back on shelves. Meanwhile, if a product says, “coming soon” or “temporarily out of stock,” continue to visit the website to ensure you get it while it lasts. While there is no single day that Sephora restocks items, the website states that it replenishes items on a weekly and even daily basis. Before visiting your local Sephora, it’s also a good idea to call ahead of time to see if the product you plan to purchase is available at that location. While the website might say in stock, it doesn’t always update in real time so calling ahead can ensure you don’t waste a trip.
